One of the most fundamental and oldest tools for the carpenter.  The "Sukiya"  (Tearoom) carpenter and the "DouMiya" (Temple/Shrine) carpenter often amass upwards of a hundred varied and specific chisel for the different parts of a building.  Rounds, straight, long, thin, wide, all are honed for their specific use and to carve the pieces of a home, tearoom, or place of worship beautifully as well as quickly.
